Happy Karva Chauth - 30th October, 2015
Today on 30th October , 2015 is the Karva Chauth. Karva Chauth is a one-day festival celebrated in North India. This festival is celebrated by the married women. On this day the women take fast from sunrise to moonrise for the long life of their husbands.
Sometimes, unmarried women observe the fast for their fiancés or desired husbands.
For this day women buy cosmetics, jewellery, bangles and puja items, such as the Karva lamps, mathi, henna and the decorated Pooja Thali in advance.
In Punjab, sargi is an important part of this pre-dawn meal and always includes fenia. It is traditional for the sargi to be sent or given to the woman by her mother-in-law. If the mother-in-law lives with the woman, the pre-dawn meal is prepared by the mother-in-law.
